Obituary

Hilda Gumke, 95, Jamestown, ND died Monday January 22, 2024 at the Jamestown Regional Medical Center.

Hilda was born May 21, 1928 at Fessenden, ND, the daughter of Robert and Alma (Weber) Schultz. She attended the local rural school where she graduated from 8th grade and grew to womanhood as she helped on the family farm.

She and Walter R. Gumke were married September 24, 1950 at Medina, ND. They made their home in Jamestown. In 1972 she started her Drapery business making drapes and retired in 1999. Following the death of her husband in 2001, she continued to live in Jamestown.

Hilda was a member of New Hope Lutheran Free Church. She enjoyed gardening, flowers and always quilting.

Those left behind to cherish her memory are her children, Shirley (Dave) Cotton, Indianapolis, IN; Joyce (Butch) Randall, Townsend, MT; Dave Gumke, West Fargo, ND; Doug Gumke, Jamestown, ND; 6 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren; 1 brother, Terrance Schultz, Jamestown, ND.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, son, Don in 2020, 2 brothers, Robert, Jerome, and 1 sister, Jenny.

We are flooded with wonderful memories of time spent with Hilda. We shared her garden, we were on the receiving end of her beautiful quilting. She was a dear friend to our Mom, no doubt a special reunion going on in heaven! Our thoughts and prayers are with all of you at this sad time. God Bless the memory of Hilda...we will miss our visits.
