Elroy Fischer

Elroy M. Fischer, 93, Valley City, ND formerly of the Gackle, ND community died early Wednesday morning February 22, 2017 at Essentia Health in Fargo, ND.

Elroy Fischer was born March 10, 1923 at Gackle, ND the son of Fred F. and Bertha (Schmidt) Fischer. He received his elementary education in the local school and grew to manhood in the vicinity where he helped on the family farm.

He and Ruth Dockter were married December 8, 1943 in St. Luke’s Lutheran Church at Streeter, ND. They made their home on the Fischer Homestead. They farmed, milked cows and raised their family. In 2009 they moved to Valley City, ND.

He was a member of the Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Gackle, ND. He also drove school bus for Gackle Streeter schools for more than 30 years; he enjoyed watching the children grow and graduate. The Fischer family has a great interest and love for horses. Elroy has workhorses, which are used for some farm chores as well as for fun times. He raised paint and quarter horses.

Elroy loved his farm and enjoyed his team of horses. He was eager to tell stories about growing up and was always willing to give advice. He loved all his children; they were all his “Little Sweethearts.” Elroy’s most common response to a question was, “Yes, we have everything under control.”

Surviving are his wife Ruth, Valley City, ND; his children, June Podoll, AR; Curtis Fischer, Gackle, ND; Kelly (Gail Miska) Fischer, Jamestown, ND; Robin (Keith) Moldenhauer – Valley City, ND; 8 grandchildren and a number of great grandchildren

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral service will be at 10:30 AM Saturday February 25, 2017 in the Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Gackle, ND, with Rev. Rick Steele, officiating.

Visitation – 9-7 Friday at the Haut Funeral Home in Gackle.

Interment will be made in the Gackle Cemetery in the spring.
