Darrel Dean Dockter, 86, Medina, North Dakota, peacefully passed away at SMP Ave Maria Village in Jamestown on Sunday, May 18, 2025, with loved ones by his side.
Darrel Dean Dockter was born to Rudolph and Esther Dockter on the farm south of Medina on April 22, 1939. He attended rural country school in Newbury Township through his eighth grade year. Darrel then worked alongside his dad, Rudolph, on the family farm.
Darrel and Margie were married on October 7, 1962, at the St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Streeter, North Dakota. Darrel and Margie had two sons, Darcy Dean and Dion Darrel. They resided on the Dockter family farm until 1977. At this time, they moved north of Jamestown, North Dakota. In the area, Darrel worked various construction jobs, including remodeling the Kirkwood Mall in Bismarck, ND, and as a carpenter/welder for Henry J. Kaiser at Dakota Gasification in Beulah, ND. In 1983, Darrel and Margie moved back out to the family farm north of Streeter. On the farm, he worked with Margie, Darcy, and Tammy, milking cows until 2003. He continued with his small grain and beef cattle operations until “retiring” in 2021.
Darrel loved farming and ranching. He could always be found in the quonset or barn tinkering on his cars and John Deeres. He loved his meat and potatoes, along with Grandma Margie’s cooking. He spent most of his summers sitting in the tractor baling hay. Darrel loved life on the farm, instilling his passion and knowledge onto his son Darcy and grandson Josh. His granddaughters loved to fight over who got to ride with him in the blue chevy while rounding up cows. Darrel enjoyed working his cows and calves every spring and fall, alongside his wife, son, daughter-in-law, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Darrel is survived by two sons Darcy (Tammy) Dockter, Medina, ND; Dion (Bonnie) Dockter, Jamestown, ND; six grandchildren, Joshua (Heather) Dockter, Jamestown, ND; Jamie (Cory) Burkle, Fredonia, ND; Jessi Roemmich, Jamestown, ND; Janessa (Brandon) Dockter, Golden Valley, ND; Brandon (Caity) Dockter, Fargo, ND; Brekken Dockter, Bismarck, ND; Eight great-grandchildren, Coltyn and Bryson Dockter; Christian, Skyler, and Elora Burkle; Ramsey and Raylen Roemmich; Khaleesi Dockter; three brothers Lenard Dockter, Abilene, TX; James “Jim” (Tudy) Dockter, Bismarck, ND; Mark (Kathy) Dockter, Streeter, ND; two sisters Judy (Wolfgang) Eder, Sault Ste.
