James W. Larson

James W. Larson, 95, Jamestown, ND passed away Sunday, November 22, 2020 at Ave Maria Village.

James was born July 8, 1925 in Dickey, ND, the son of Erwin E Larson and Sadie (Ebert) Larson. He attended local school where he graduated from Dickey High School in 1943.

He entered the US Marine Corp October 21, 1943 in Minneapolis, MN. He served during WW II in the Southern Pacific Area (Peleliu Island and Okinawa), was wounded in action and received a Purple Heart. James was discharged on February 13, 1946 in Great Lakes, IL with Rank of Corporal.

He returned to ND and attended the State School of Science in Wahpeton, ND studying Refrigeration from 1946-48. He then worked for Bridgeman Russell and the Coca-Cola Plant in Jamestown, ND.

James and Beverly Arthur were married on June 13, 1953 in Berlin, ND and they made their home in Jamestown, ND. James then became employed by the USPS as a letter carrier for 30 years (1956-1986) until his retirement.

James enjoyed woodworking (he made many pendulum wall clocks which he gave away to friends and family members) and small furniture items. He also took time to go fishing, camping, gardening, walking and meeting his group of friends for coffee.

He loved dogs and cats and country music.

He is survived by his wife Beverly, Jamestown, ND; 4 children:  Barbara (Brian) Lunde, Jamestown, ND; Keith (Deb) Larson, Mandan, ND; Michael (Dana) Larson, Fargo, ND; Sara (Michael) Livitchi, East Grand Forks, MN; 13 grandchildren:  Laura Lunde (Matt) Pillsbury, Amy Lunde, Sadie Larson, James Larson, Brittany Larson, Jen (Raul) Leher, Lisa Larson-Williams, Jill (Cole) Horsager, Ekaterina, Iris, Nick, Maxwell and Jameson Livitchi; 5 great grandchildren:  Cameron Pillsbury, Brooklyn and Connor Leher, Ella Williams, Sawyer Horsager; 3 sisters, Carol Peterson, Sault Ste. Marie, MI; Deanna (Jerry) Mangin, Lisbon, ND; Sharon Kitzerow, Two Rivers, WI; many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents Erwin and Sadie, 2 sisters, Lois Weber and Joyce Wrighton.

           

We will dearly miss this quiet, unpretentious man who was many things to many people.  Always willing to offer a helping hand to a friend or acquaintance with sturdiness, humor and compassion.
