Milton Schmeichel, 89, Jamestown, ND died Saturday morning January 11, 2014 in Eventide at Hi-Acres in Jamestown, ND.

Milton Max Schmeichel was born August 22, 1924 at Freeman, SD, the son of August Schmeichel and Elisebeth (Feidler) Schmeichel. He received his elementary education in the local rural school and grew to manhood in the vicinity where he helped on the family farm.

He and Mavis Waterman were married February 4, 1948 at Geddes, SD. They made their home on his parent's farm. They later moved to Unityville, SD where they farmed until moving to Spencer, SD where he worked at a canvas company. In 1961 they moved to Yankton, SD where he started Yankton Canvas Co. In 1972 he moved the business to Jamestown which he operated. He entered Hi-Acres Manor in 2002 where he has continued to reside.

He enjoyed the outdoors, camping, boating, hunting and fishing with his family. He also enjoyed playing an Electric Hawaiian guitar and spending time at family gatherings. Milton was a Spiritual Leader for his family.

Surviving are his wife Mavis, Jamestown, ND his children, Marla (Chuck) Wubben, Norfolk, NE; Carol Jensen, Montpelier, ND; Steven Schmeichel, Charles (Kristy) Schmeichel, Debra Wilhelm, Teri Schmeichel, James Schmeichel, Kurt (Beth) Schmeichel, Chad (Special friend Denise Baldwin) ,Van Schmeichel all of Jamestown, ND, Jay (Heidi) Schmeichel, Bismarck, ND, 35 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren; two brothers, Henry Schmeichel, Salem, SD and Roy(Rose) Schmeichel, Sioux Falls, SD.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one son in infancy, two sons-in-law, Larry Jensen and Dan Wilhelm and one brother Gerhardt.

Funeral Service will be at 1:00 PM Thursday January 16, 2014 in St. Pauls United Methodist Church in Jamestown, ND with Rev. David Simmons officiating

Prayer Service: 7:00 PM Wednesday at the Funeral Home

Interment will be made in the Highland Home Cemetery, Jamestown, ND.

Visitation 9-8 Wednesday at the funeral Home
