John "Byron" Gallagher

John ‘Byron' Gallagher, 94, Jamestown, ND died Wednesday June 15, 2011 at the Eventide at Hi-Acres Manor in Jamestown, ND.

Byron was born May 18, 1917 at Jamestown, ND, the son of Charles Gallagher and Mabel (Brooks) Gallagher. He attended the Cleveland Public School where he received his elementary education and later attended the Valley City Public School.

In 1935 he entered the Civilian Conservation Corp until 1936. In 1937 he began working for the Northern Pacific Railroad.

He entered the United States Army October 8, 1940 at Jamestown, ND. He served in the 188th Field Artillery in Europe. He was discharged September 20, 1945 at Camp McCoy, WI with the rank of Tech 5. Following the war he began working for Northern Pacific and Burlington Northern.

He and Ethel Bitz were married April 9, 1949 at Cleveland, ND. They made their home in Pingree, ND where he worked for the railroad. In 1984 they moved into Jamestown. Following the death of his wife November 8, 2001, he continued to reside in Jamestown.

He was a member of Seventh-day Adventist Church, the V.F.W. and the D.A.V..

He is survived by his son, Bruce Gallagher, Edgeley, ND; 4 grandchildren, Cristy (Wayne) Deery, Justin, Shane,Cory Gallagher, Amy Brehm and 1 great grandson, Dustin Deery.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and his wife, one brother Edward and one sister, Geneva.

The funeral service will be at 11:00 A.M. Friday June 17, 2011 in the Seventh-day Adventist Church at Cleveland, ND, with Pastor Darren Purdy, officiating.

The burial will be made in the Cleveland Cemetery at Cleveland, ND.

Prayer Service - 7:00 PM Thursday @ the funeral home in Jamestown
Visitation - 9:00 AM - 8:00 PM
