Harry Astrup

Mr. Harry Astrup, 89, Jamestown, ND died Wednesday morning November 29, 2006 at his home in Jamestown.
Harry Astrup was born January 13, 1917 on the family farm near Fairmount, ND, the son of Hans Astrup and Anna (Bertleson) Astrup. He attended the local rural school near LaMars, ND and attended High School in Fairmount graduating in 1934. He grew to manhood in the vicinity where he helped on the family farm. He entered the United States Marine Corp on June 3, 1942 at Fargo, ND. He served in the Asiatic Pacific Theater and was discharged November 7, 1945 at Mare Island, California.
He and Aileen Keumper were married November 18, 1947 at St. Marys Church in Worthington, MN. They made their home in Fairmount where he worked for a short-time at the Farmers Union Oil Company. In January of 1948 he became the Manager of the Farmers Union Oil Co. in Wimbledon until 1969. From 1969 to 1971 he was the Interim Manager at Lisbon, ND. In 1971 they moved to Leeds, ND where he was employed as the Manager of the York Cenex until his retirement in 1982 when they moved to Jamestown, ND. Following their retirement Harry and Aileen enjoyed wood working and being involved with Craft Shows.
He was a member of the Basilica of St. James in Jamestown, ND, Wimbledon School Board having served as President, Wimbledon Fire Dept, having served as Chief and was the Mayor of Wimbledon. He also was a member of the American Legion having served as Commander, V.F.W. and the Knights of Columbus.
Surviving are his wife, Aileen, Jamestown, ND, his children, Larry (Jo Marie) Astrup, Fargo, ND, Ken (Linda) Astrup, Jamestown, ND, Carole Kiecker, Brookings, SD, Marie (John) Olson, Mahnomen, MN, John (Chris) Astrup, Colorado Springs, CO, 13 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, two sisters and one son-in-law, Dave Kiecker in 1995.
Funeral Service will be at 10:30 AM Monday December 4, 2006 in the Basilica of St. James with Father John McGinnis, officiating.
Interment will be made in the Sunset Memorial Gardens in Jamestown, ND.
KC Rosary 6:30 PM with a Prayer Service to follow at 7:00 PM Sunday at the Funeral Home.
Visitation 9-5 Saturday and 1-9 Sunday at the Funeral Home.
