Frieda Metz-Rivinius

Frieda Metz-Rivinius, 94, went to be with our Lord on September 27th, 2014. Services will be held at Gackle UCC Church on Friday, October 10th at 11:00 a.m. Visitation will be from 5:00 till 7:00 p.m. and a prayer service will follow at 7:30 p.m. Thursday night, October 9th at UCC Church. The burial will be in the Gackle Cemetery at Gackle, ND.

Frieda was born on November 9, 1919, to Michael and Amelia (Schadler) Gumke, at the Gumke Homestead south of Gackle, ND. She was the 3rd of 9 children.

Frieda married Raymond Metz on her 20th birthday, November 9, 1939. They made their home on the Metz Homestead, 12 miles SE of Gackle and were blessed with 3 children. In 1970 they moved to a farm 1 mile south of Gackle. After Ray's death in 1980, Frieda moved to town, and married Reuben Rivinius in 1987. After's Reuben's death in 1989, she continued to reside in Gackle until moving to Jamestown in 2009. After 1 year she moved to Clare Bridge Memory Care Center in Everett, WA near Gerald and family.

Frieda loved life as a homemaker and farmer's wife. She was a hard worker and could cook, clean, milk cows, and set a haystack with the best of them. She was a member of Guiding Light and the UCC Church Choir. She loved to visit everyone at the Gackle Care Center and enjoyed the Senior Citizen's Gatherings. Her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren adored her and she loved them.

Frieda is survived by her 3 children, Shirley (Harry) Kuhn, Steeleville, IL; Donald (Juliet) Metz, Gackle, ND; Gerald (Lizabeth) Metz, Marysville, WA; 10 grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren; 1 sister, Violet (Gust) Dorr; 1 brother, Morris (Clare) Gumke of Moses Lake, WA; and 1 sister - in - law, Florence Gumke, Granite Falls, WA and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Michael and Amelia Gumke; her husbands, Raymond Metz and Reuben Rivinius; 1 great granddaughter, Maggie Metz; 3 brothers and 3 sisters, Andrew Gumke (Alma) Elhard); Elsie (George) Lippert); Edwin Gumke (Alice) Pressler); Richard Gumke; Anna (Lyle) Arneson, and Lorene (Adam) Zimmerman.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Alzheimer's Association, or UCC Church or ministries of your choice.
