Darwin Shannon Yttredahl

Darwin Shannon Yttredahl, 73, of Jamestown, ND unexpectedly passed away on April 16th, 2025. Darwin was surrounded by his loving family in his final moments.

Darwin was born in Williston, ND in December of 1951 to Shannon and Beatrice Yttredahl. Darwin resided in the Watford City area until the age of 6 or 7 and moved to Sheyenne, ND until the approximate age of 10 when the family moved to Nome, ND. Darwin attended school in Nome until the school closed, he then transferred to Fingal. While attending school in Fingal, he later met and began dating his future wife, Debra Kuhry. After graduating from Fingal High School in 1970, Darwin started working for Beyer Cement on their trucks and equipment. In the Summer of 1971, Darwin moved to Williston, ND where he attended Williston State College’s Diesel Tech program. Darwin graduated from the program and moved back to the Valley City area in 1972.

Darwin and Deb married in January of 1973 in Oriska, ND. They moved back to Williston, ND where he took a job as a diesel tech at Bomack Trucking. Darwin hung his wrenches up a year later and began driving truck for an outfit that would later become Black Hills Trucking, where he spent the majority of his career. Darwin and Deb were married for 52 wonderful years and together they raised their three children, Kristi, Steve, and Stacie. Throughout the years, Darwin’s fun and pleasure simply came from spending time with family, especially his grandchildren in the later years of his life. It didn’t matter what they were doing, as long as they did it together. Darwin enjoyed being on the water fishing, hunting, and all other outdoor activities. He was rarely seen without a coffee cup in his hand and if he didn’t have one, there was one within reaching distance.

Darwin is survived by his adoring wife Debra (Kuhry) Yttredahl, Jamestown, ND; children Kristi (Randy) Fastenau of Aberdeen, SD, Steve (Holly) Yttredahl of Fargo, ND, and Stacie (Mike) Dallmann, Jamestown, ND; grandchildren, Jacob (Regina) Fastenau, Watertown, SD, Brandon Dallmann, Jamestown, ND, Erik Fastenau, Sioux Falls, SD, Megan Fastenau, Aberdeen, SD, Lily Dallmann of Jamestown, ND, and Josie Yttredahl, Fargo, ND; siblings Sharon (Ron) Weber of Watford City, ND, Susan Cook of Spokane Valley, WA, Sharlene (George) Thompson of Spokane, WA, and Dwayne (Casey) Yttredahl of Santa Rita, MT.

Darwin was preceded in death by his grandparents Steve and Amy Yttredahl, parents Shannon and Beatrice Adel (Renbarger) Yttredahl, his brother David Yttredahl, and sister Donna (Yttredahl) Zimmiond.
